Chinese AI company DeepSeek has postponed the launch of its latest AI model, R2, due to persistent technical challenges with Huawei’s Ascend chips. After local authorities encouraged the use of domestic systems for their products, DeepSeek experienced difficulties during the training phase of the model. While they initially planned a May release, the issues forced them to rely on Nvidia chips for training and utilize Huawei’s Ascend chips for inference. This delay highlights challenges faced by Chinese chip manufacturers in competing with US-based rivals like Nvidia.
