Harvard and Brown Universities Ramp Up Bitcoin ETF Investments

Two prestigious US universities, Harvard and Brown, have significantly increased their investments in Bitcoin through exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Harvard allocated $116 million to BlackRock’s Bitcoin spot ETF (IBIT), owning nearly 1.9 million shares. This positions the university as a top investor in the Bitcoin ETF space, surpassing its investments in tech giants like Nvidia and Amazon. Brown University also saw its Bitcoin ETF holdings increase by more than double, holding 212,500 IBIT shares valued at $13 million, according to their recent SEC filings. This move has placed them among the top investors of the IBIT ETF. While these investments remain small relative to Harvard’s overall portfolio, they reflect a shift towards a more pragmatic approach to crypto exposure for universities.
