A member of the XRP community has publicly reported losing thousands of XRP tokens from their Bitrue account, sparking concerns and outrage among crypto investors. Known as “PapaBear,” the user alleges that unauthorized withdrawals totaling 2,045 XRP (around $4,764 at the time) were made from his Bitrue account without his authorization. He described a receiving wallet he doesn’t recognize and highlighted multiple security features like two-factor authentication and email verification employed to protect his account. However, PapaBear suspects an internal issue with Bitrue as they haven’t offered detailed information or updates on the incident. 2019 and 2023 marked similar security breaches for Bitrue: losing $4.2 million worth of XRP and ADA in 2019 due to a compromised hot wallet, and then another $23 million across various assets like Ethereum and Shiba Inu in 2023. While Bitrue has previously reimbursed users affected by previous incidents, this latest loss is reigniting concerns about their internal security controls and potential manipulation of asset prices for leveraged trades. The Seychelles-based exchange’s history of inadequate regulatory control further fuels these anxieties. The alleged theft, accompanied by claims of other users experiencing similar unauthorized withdrawals, has spurred calls for Bitrue to address the situation transparently. PapaBear is urging others who faced similar issues to come forward and pressure the platform for a response. As the incident attracts attention from crypto communities, calls for greater accountability towards Bitrue are growing.
