ConsenSys to Launch LINEA Token Before MetaMask, Focuses on Long-Term Web3 Infrastructure

Joseph Lubin, founder of ConsensSys, has confirmed that their first project to launch its own token will be LINEA, a zkEVM Layer 2 network. This announcement came in response to a tweet asking about the potential for MetaMask, another popular Ethereum wallet created by ConsenSys, to receive its own token. Lubin elaborated on their strategy, stating they are focused on ‘protocolization’ of existing products and building Web3 infrastructure that utilizes tokens for governance, rewards, and usage. While he did not confirm if MetaMask would receive a token in the future, he indicated the possibility by suggesting it could become more integrated with other protocol-based platforms. This move marks a broader shift from just rewarding MetaMask users to creating a network of interconnected Web3 protocols that rely on tokens for seamless functionality.
