SEC Repeals Crypto Custody Rules, Opening Door for Growth

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently repealed key rules governing cryptocurrency custody and DeFi platforms, marking a significant shift towards a more lenient regulatory landscape. This move scrapes the expanded custody rule focused on digital assets and rescinds Rule 3b-16, which targeted DeFi exchanges as securities exchanges. This repeal also dismisses proposed Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosure requirements for listed entities.
