AMD made a significant impact by hosting the 2025 Global AI Development Conference, where they unveiled their latest generation of AI chips and cloud infrastructure hardware. Special guest and OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman participated in the event to collaborate with AMD on introducing the Instinct MI400 and Instinct MI350 series of powerful AI processors. OpenAI’s technical expertise helped optimize the GPUs throughout the development process.
During the conference, Sam Altman expressed amazement at the MI400 chip’s 432GB of HBM4 memory capacity, highlighting its impressive specifications.
The MI350 series boasts 288GB of HBM3E memory and offers up to 8TB/s of memory bandwidth. This allows for four times faster AI computing capabilities and a significant 35x boost in inference performance compared to previous models.
AMD emphasized that the MI355X’s lower power consumption leads to 40% more tokens per dollar than their competitors, NVIDIA, illustrating its efficiency advantage.
