Following a record-breaking $1.4 billion crypto theft in February 2025, Bybit, the world’s second largest cryptocurrency exchange, announced a comprehensive security overhaul on June 4th, 2025. The attack, attributed to North Korean-linked hackers (Lazarus Group), exploited vulnerabilities in Bybit’s multi-signature wallet system, ultimately stealing approximately 401,000 Ethereum tokens. Halborn experts revealed that the exploit involved social engineering tactics employed to compromise a Safe developer’s computer and inject malicious JavaScript into the transaction signing process. This enabled hackers to disguise unauthorized transfers as legitimate wallet operations.
