Tether is expanding its foray into digital gold by launching a new omnichain version of its stablecoin, XAUt, named XAUt0, on the TON blockchain. The partnership with the TON Foundation aims to facilitate wider access to digital gold across multiple blockchains and boost activity on the TON ecosystem. Built using LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard, XAUt0 eliminates the need for wrapping or intermediary chains, enabling seamless movement of tokens between blockchains – a step that mirrors Tether’s earlier deployment of USDT0, a cross-chain version of its dollar stablecoin. This move promises to enhance peer-to-peer payments within Telegram’s vast user base and open up new avenues in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space.
