BYD Surpasses 380,000 Vehicle Sales in May with Aggressive Price Cuts

BYD achieved a significant milestone in May 2025 by selling over 380,000 vehicles. This exceptional sales performance comes after the company implemented aggressive price reductions up to 34%, according to a company statement released on Sunday. 376,930 of these sales were passenger cars, while 204,369 were fully electric and 172,561 were plug-in hybrids – marking the second time since early 2024 that electric sales surpassed hybrid sales. The company’s full-year target stands at 5.5 million units sold, with a substantial achievement of 1.76 million units achieved by the end of May. While the price cuts fueled a surge in demand, impacting BYD shares and other EV stocks negatively, industry experts expressed concern over the potential impact on profitability.
