Supreme Court Faces Case on Crypto User’s Records Fight

The US government has urged the Supreme Court to reject a Coinbase user’s appeal against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)’s request for access to his cryptocurrency transaction records. In a filing, Solicitor General D. John Sauer argued that James Harper, who traded Bitcoin on Coinbase during the relevant years, had no Fourth Amendment right to privacy in financial data held by the exchange, as he voluntarily provided this information to Coinbase.
