Crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun is set to make history, becoming the first individual from the blockchain industry to travel to space. According to Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’s aerospace company, Sun has secured a seat on a future New Shepard flight. This significant milestone marks a major moment for both the cryptocurrency and aerospace sectors. 29 May marked Sun’s recent online appearance inside a spacecraft simulator and flipping through Forbes magazine featuring his face on the cover. The tweet hinted at an upcoming announcement by Blue Origin regarding a spaceflight. 1st-hand confirmation of this trip was given by Blue Origin’s official Twitter account, although the exact date for launch has not been specified. 2021 saw Sun acquire a seat on Blue Origin’s inaugural crewed flight through a charity auction. This donation was made to Blue Origin’s foundation, the Club for the Future. Funds from the sale went towards education and advancement in space and STEM fields. The trip is not scheduled for immediate launch but Sun has been involved with Blue Origin ever since his seat on the initial flight was secured. 2023 marks his historic journey into space as he prepares to join five other individuals on a future flight, making him the first crypto billionaire to travel beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Justin Sun is no stranger to high-profile events outside of the cryptocurrency space. In 2019, he won a charity lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffett for $4.5 million. At the event, he introduced Buffett to digital assets and presented him with a smartphone showing Bitcoin and TRX. The choice to give out bitcoin drew significant attention despite earlier doubts expressed by Buffett. Sun’s attendance at a White House dinner in 2023, hosted for top holders of Trump’s TRUMP coin, also highlighted his engagement in high-level events beyond the crypto space. This latest endeavor marks a pivotal moment as it signifies a unique intersection between technology, finance, and space exploration. The excitement surrounding Sun’s upcoming spaceflight is palpable, and this trip could signify an era where these spheres converge even more profoundly.
