Residents in Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states are experiencing widespread network disruptions following simultaneous fibre cuts impacting both MTN and 9mobile. As per a report from Nairametrics, these outages have left residents unable to make voice calls, send text messages, or utilize mobile data services. The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) released a network status report confirming the fiber cuts occurred around 7:09 PM on Thursday, May 29th, 2025, with ongoing effects. The affected communities include Aliero, Anka, Arewa Dandi, Argungu, Augie, Bagudo, Bakura, Binji, Birnin Kebbi, Bodinga, Dange Shuni, Fakai, and Gada, along with others in the states. 50,000 fiber cuts were recorded last year alone, primarily due to road construction activities impacting telecommunications services across the country. 2024 saw a similar downtime for MTN.
