Elon Musk has refuted claims of a finalized partnership agreement between his AI company, xAI, and Telegram, despite earlier announcements by Telegram founder Pavel Durov. Just yesterday, Durov revealed that Telegram would integrate xAI’s AI chatbot Grok across its platform, with the deal promising significant financial benefits for Telegram, including a 50% share of all subscription sales. Durov valued the agreement at $300 million through a mix of cash and equity. However, Musk swiftly contradicted Durov’s statements on X (formerly Twitter), asserting that no formal contract exists. While Durov clarified that an ‘agreement in principle’ was reached, the two sides haven’t finalized paperwork, leaving the partnership status in limbo. This comes at a critical juncture for Telegram as they are gearing up to raise $1.5 billion through a new bond issuance. The funding will likely be used to pay off debt incurred in 2021. According to The Wall Street Journal, prominent investors like Citadel, BlackRock, and Mubadala have shown interest in this offering. For now, the fate of the xAI-Telegram collaboration remains unclear as both sides move forward with negotiations without a confirmed deal.
