SUI Foundation Offers Loan to Cetus Following Major Hack

The SUI Foundation is providing a loan to the Cetus Protocol, following a significant security breach that resulted in a $233 million loss earlier this month. The foundation plans to use the loan to compensate affected users entirely. Cetus stated that it’s now positioned to cover stolen assets currently off-chain and that a detailed plan will follow. They also expressed deep regret for the impact of the incident on users and the broader ecosystem. The breach occurred on May 22, 2025, impacting Cetus’ decentralized exchange (DEX) and liquidity protocol on the SUI blockchain. The attack exploited a vulnerability in the platform’s liquidity pool logic that allowed attackers to create large positions with minimal input tokens.
