Safaricom Invests $500 Million in African AI Infrastructure

Safaricom, the leading telecommunications company in East Africa, has announced a massive $500 million investment to develop artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across the region over the next three years. The commitment, made by Cynthia Kropac, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at Safaricom, during the Connected Africa Summit 2025, highlights Africa’s potential to become a major player in the global AI space. Kropac emphasized that Africa should move beyond being a passive consumer of AI technologies developed elsewhere and instead create systems tailored to its unique languages, data, and socio-economic realities.
