Ethereum Validators Eye Gas Limit Increase to 60 Million Units

A substantial number of Ethereum validators, amounting to roughly 153,795 nodes, have expressed interest in doubling the network’s gas limit to 60 million units. This potential increase from the current ceiling of 36 million could significantly enhance transaction throughput on Ethereum’s base layer. Currently, the majority of validators are favoring the existing 36 million unit limit, which was recently raised from 30 million earlier this year. Gas in Ethereum represents the computational energy needed for transactions to be processed. The gas limit defines the total gas usage allowed per block. As per GasLimit.pics data, a website providing independent tracking of the Ethereum gas limit, nearly 13.5% of validators are actively pushing for this increase. Once this percentage reaches 50%, the network will automatically adjust the block gas limit to accommodate the 60 million unit setting.
