South Africa Secures Gas Deal with US for $1 Billion Trade Boost

In a major trade agreement, South Africa has secured a long-term contract to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the U.S., aiming to boost its energy mix and deepen economic ties between both nations. The deal is expected to generate approximately $1 billion in annual trade and will see South Africa source 75-100 petajoules of LNG annually, representing a significant shift away from coal-based power generation. This agreement builds upon President Ramaphosa’s visit to the White House where he discussed energy diversification, trade, and investments with President Biden.
