Russia Aims to Shift Crypto Mining to Northern Regions

Russia is exploring a strategic shift in its approach to cryptocurrency mining. Deputy Energy Minister Yevgeny Grabchak has revealed plans to potentially relocate miners to northern regions with ample energy supply. This move seeks to capitalize on surplus power infrastructure from oil extraction, thus minimizing waste and relieving pressure on local grids. While the government implemented mining bans across certain areas since 2025, Grabchak emphasized that northern, northwestern, and Volga regions remain viable sites for development.
