Tourist Loses $123,000 in Crypto After Being Drugged by Fake Uber Driver in London

An American tourist from Portland, Oregon, Jacob Irwin-Cline, experienced a devastating financial loss after being robbed and drugged while using a fake Uber driver in London. He was targeted after leaving the nightclub The Roxy around 1:30 AM on May 9th. According to local news publication MyLondon, he accepted a cigarette from the seemingly legitimate driver who then allegedly administered a sedative through the cigarette, causing him to become disoriented and lose consciousness. While unconscious, Irwin-Cline unknowingly handed over access to his crypto accounts, leading to the theft of $123,000 in Bitcoin and Ripple’s XRP. The suspect fled with his phone and laptop, leaving Irwin-Cline stranded in a London suburb and unable to regain access to his digital accounts. His cryptocurrency holdings dropped significantly from around $73,000 in XRP and $50,000 in Bitcoin to near zero.
