IMF Warns US Budget Deficit and Debt Burden Threaten Economy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has issued a critical warning to the United States regarding its growing budget deficit and ballooning national debt. Gita Gopinath, the IMF’s first deputy managing director, issued a statement urging the US government to implement sustainable fiscal policies that would decrease the country’s debt. The alarming levels of debt are fueled by a substantial $36.8 trillion national debt – equivalent to 122% of GDP – according to US Treasury data. Gopinath emphasized the need for consistent fiscal policy changes to reduce the debt-to-GDP ratio over time.
