US Justice Department Opens Probe into Coinbase Data Breach

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched an investigation into a recent cyberattack at Coinbase, America’s leading cryptocurrency exchange. The inquiry focuses on the breach, which involved criminals bribing foreign Coinbase support staff to gain unauthorized access to sensitive customer data. The attack resulted in the theft of personal information from approximately one million users, including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, bank account details, Social Security numbers, government-issued IDs, and transaction histories.
