SEC Chairman Proposes Restructuring FinHub for Increased Innovation

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins has proposed a significant shift in how FinHub operates. He’s requested Congress to reallocate authority for integrating FinHub functions into other departments within the SEC. Established in 2018 during a time of rapid technological advancement, FinHub focuses on understanding emerging technologies like distributed ledger technology and digital assets. Atkins acknowledged that FinHub has often been misunderstood as an enforcement tool, when it should be more focused on fostering innovation. He further emphasized that FinHub’s small size limits its effectiveness and suggested transferring the expertise of its staff to other SEC departments for enhanced efficiency.
