Coinbase Faces Lawsuits After Data Breach Exposes User Information

The cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has found itself at the center of a legal storm following accusations of negligence surrounding a data breach impacting its customer service agents. This incident, which occurred between May 15 and 17, led to six lawsuits being filed against Coinbase in federal courts in New York and California. The crux of the complaint is that customer service representatives were allegedly bribed by hackers into granting unauthorized access to internal systems. This breach facilitated a major crypto attack on the platform, exposing sensitive user data including names, addresses, phone numbers, account extracts, passports, and social security numbers.
