Austin Federa, CEO of DoubleZero, a blockchain company focused on high-speed communication rails, argues the public internet is hindering blockchain network performance. According to Federa, the public internet’s structure and design are unsuitable for high-throughput applications in blockchain systems. “The downside of the public internet is it was never built for high-performance systems. It was always built for this sort of relationship of one big server talking to one little server,” Federa stated at Consensus 2025, emphasizing the need for specialized infrastructure. He explained how validators globally engage in a dynamic process, leading to constant switching between massive data consumers and broadcasters. “So that means that they need huge amounts of resources both on ingress and egress.”
