Authorities in Paraguay have detained three undocumented immigrants and arrested another individual for attempting to steal cryptocurrency miners from a facility near the country’s Itaipu hydroelectric dam. The men were apprehended shortly after breaking into Teratech SA’s facility in Coronel Bogado, according to Paraguayan prosecutor Irene Rolón. Prosecutors suspect the men may have been contracted by Teratech, but official confirmation is pending. 3 Chinese nationals, Jinping Duan, Tian Jianyun, and Zheng Guanglong, were deported due to lacking proper entry records into Paraguay. Authorities believe they illegally entered through Brazil or Bolivia. The other individual arrested, Nahun María Velázquez Garcete, a resident of Paraguay, has been charged with aggravated theft and is currently awaiting trial. He suffered injuries during the arrest but details are unclear. Paraguayan authorities suspect that multiple individuals were involved in the attempted theft, which is ongoing. Rolón believes the undocumented immigrants had been residing in Paraguay for several months, possibly as programmers. The exact nature of their employment at Teratech remains under investigation.
