Ripple has teamed up with Mercy Corps Ventures and Colombian agri-tech startup WËIA to launch a pilot project aimed at tackling the challenges faced by small farmers in Colombia. The project will leverage blockchain technology, not as a buzzword, but as a practical tool for real change on the ground. 300 farmers will participate in this pilot program, with nearly half of them women, who will process a significant amount of panela (Colombia’s beloved unrefined cane sugar) each month. This initiative aims to demonstrate the potential of blockchain to boost income and build trust within the supply chain. By utilizing WËIA’s blockchain platform on the XRP Ledger, farmers can enjoy greater transparency and traceability throughout their products’ journey from seed to harvest, enabling verifiable product provenance and ethical sourcing.
