Man Sentenced to 14 Months for Role in SEC Bitcoin ETF Fake Announcement

Eric Council Jr., a man behind the SIM swap attack that led to a fake announcement regarding a Bitcoin ETF approval on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) X account, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison. The sentence follows his guilty plea to conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft and access device fraud. He will serve this term followed by three years of supervised release.
