Ethereum co-founder Justin Drake recently raised concerns about the relative security of Bitcoin compared to Ethereum, suggesting that launching a 51% attack on Bitcoin would be more cost-effective than on Ethereum. He estimated that such an attack could potentially cost around $10 billion on Bitcoin, compared to approximately $44.8 billion for a similar attempt on Ethereum. This perspective aligns with previous statements by Grant Hummer of Etherealize, who claimed that Bitcoin’s security budget is insufficient. 51% attacks occur when an entity gains control over more than half of a blockchain network’s mining or staking power, allowing them to manipulate the network.
