Following the successful implementation of the Pectra upgrade, Ethereum’s core developers are gearing up for the next major leap forward: the Fusaka upgrade, scheduled for late 2025. This significant change will incorporate proposals focusing on PeerDAS, a mechanism aimed at reducing operational costs for Layer 2 scaling solutions and validators. PeerDAS (Peer-to-peer Data Availability Sampling) allows nodes to verify data availability without downloading the entire dataset, thereby increasing network efficiency and decreasing resource consumption. This innovation promises to further optimize Ethereum’s scalability, enhancing both the network’s efficiency and decentralization. While exact details of the Fusaka upgrade are still being finalized, developers have unanimously agreed on including PeerDAS.
