Indonesia Considering Deletion of Retinal Data After Security Concerns

The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is reviewing the deletion of 500,000 retinal data records collected by World, a platform providing identity verification services. This decision comes in response to security concerns regarding potential data breaches. Komdigi is currently assessing the risks associated with storing such sensitive data. If evidence of these risks is found, the data may be permanently deleted. World, facing scrutiny for offering users 800,000 Indonesian Rupiah (roughly $48.34) to scan their retinas as part of its platform’s identity verification services, has halted all scanning activities in Indonesia following the revocation of its operating license by Komdigi. World clarified that its cryptocurrency, Worldcoin, is not used to compensate users; these optional tokens are merely incentives.
