Metaplanet Raises $21.25 Million in Bonds to Buy Bitcoin, Expanding Crypto Holdings

Metaplanet, a leading Bitcoin investment firm based in Tokyo, has issued $21.25 million in zero-percent bonds to acquire Bitcoin. This move is part of the company’s growth strategy and aims to bolster its crypto reserves. 5,555 BTC already owned by Metaplanet saw a significant stock value increase following this bond issuance, reaching 41% in just one week. Metaplanet has become Asia’s largest Bitcoin holder by utilizing a unique zero-coupon bond strategy partnered with EVO Fund. This strategy allows for strategic cryptocurrency investment without immediate cash flow impact, maximizing returns and aligning with the company’s vision for long-term growth. The bond issuance enables Metaplanet to purchase approximately 205 BTC at current market prices, increasing its total Bitcoin holdings to 5,555 BTC and leading to a valuation of $575.91 million. This strategic move follows similar tactics employed by MicroStrategy, further solidifying Bitcoin’s position as a reliable store of value for institutions. The overall effect on the broader crypto market is expected to increase due to increased corporate investment in Bitcoin, which might foster further institutional adoption and drive price growth.
