SEC Seeks to Streamline Rules for Crypto Securities

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is considering new regulatory approaches that could make it easier for companies to launch digital tokens tied to real-world assets, according to a speech by SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce published on May 8th. This potential change would apply to firms utilizing blockchain technology for securities issuance, trading, and settlement. The SEC might issue an exemptive order, potentially exempting these firms from some of the usual registration requirements for brokers, clearing agencies, or even exchanges.
