A Kenyan High Court has ordered cryptocurrency platform Worldcoin, run by Sam Altman, to halt biometric data processing, collection, and handling until a comprehensive assessment of its impact is completed. The ruling, delivered on May 5th, mandates the company to permanently delete collected biometric information from Kenya within seven days. Additionally, Worldcoin is prohibited from offering crypto incentives to users as suggested to potentially violate Data Protection Act Section 31. The decision was issued by Justice Aburili Roselyne, aligned with the Katiba Institute’s advocacy against Worldcoin’s operations. The legal challenge initiated in August 2023 by the institute seeks a judicial review of Worldcoin Foundation. 🇰🇪
