Ride-hailing company Bolt has addressed reports of the removal of its Economy Ride category in Rivers State, clarifying that the changes are specifically aimed at improving driver conduct and ensuring quality service. The company clarified their stance on the matter with Technext after initial reports from Nigerian e-hailing union chairman Comrade Omoruyi Amos sparked controversy. 20-year-old Bolt spokesperson revealed that the Economy Ride remains active, even in the state’s busiest zone of Port Harcourt, and serves as a high-demand category for rides. The company acknowledged recent challenges related to offline trips, stating that its driver monitoring system is being actively employed to address this issue. 14-year-old drivers facing multiple reports of misconduct or platform misuse will see their Economy Ride access restricted, with escalating penalties ranging from warnings and temporary blocks to complete deactivation if repeated offenses occur.
