A Texas representative has proposed that government buildings across the US could install cryptocurrency ATMs as part of an effort to educate the public about digital financial technology. In a letter to the General Services Administration (GSA), Rep. Lance Gooden requested they begin exploring how to integrate crypto ATMs into government-owned properties, citing President Trump’s support for such innovations. He also cited potential alignment with the administration’s goals regarding financial technology advancements. The GSA website previously stated it could provide space for ATMs from federal credit unions but has not yet addressed whether Gooden’s request for private companies like Bitcoin Depot or CoinFlip would be possible. Rep. Gooden, a Republican and Trump supporter, made the proposal as lawmakers in the US Senate look to enact legislation aimed at cracking down on fraud related to crypto ATMs. Senator Dick Durbin recently introduced the Crypto ATM Fraud Prevention Act to address issues affecting senior citizens. Whether this proposal will become reality remains unclear as it’s not yet known if the GSA administrator has the authority to implement such changes without Congressional authorization.
