EU Aims for Higher US Goods Purchases Amid Trade Negotiations

The European Union (EU) seeks to boost purchases of U.S. goods by €50 billion as part of ongoing trade negotiations, according to Odaily. EU negotiator, Maroš Šefčovič, highlights this increase as a step towards resolving trade relationship issues. Despite progress in negotiations with the U.S., Šefčovič stated that continuing a 10% tariff on EU goods is unacceptable. He emphasized a commitment to reaching a ‘balanced and fair’ agreement with the White House following numerous rounds of talks involving face-to-face and phone conversations. While acknowledging potential for swift resolution through increased purchases of U.S. natural gas and agricultural products, Šefčovič cautioned that securing an agreement that is ‘clearly good and acceptable’ to EU member states and the European Parliament will prove challenging.
