U.S. Tariffs Slow China’s Manufacturing Activity

China’s manufacturing sector experienced a slowdown in April, as US tariffs dampened new orders and triggered job cuts, according to a private survey released Wednesday. The Caixin and S&P Global April Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) dropped to 50.4 from March’s 51.2, marking the lowest reading since January. Although this result still exceeded expectations in a Reuters poll, it highlights a deepening impact of US tariffs on the Chinese economy.
