The ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war have highlighted the increasing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in military operations. As these conflicts unfold, a new project, known as ‘Operational Information Factory,’ developed by Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF), is being used to analyze audio, visual, and text data on battlefields to pinpoint combatants amidst civilian populations. This technology aims to streamline the IDF’s decision-making process for targeting individuals within densely populated areas of the Gaza Strip controlled by Hamas. However, questions arise about the ethical implications and accuracy of relying solely on AI in complex war situations.
