Over 70 Crypto ETFs Await SEC Approval This Year, Signaling Growing Institutional Interest

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to review over 70 cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund (ETF) proposals this year. These filings encompass a diverse range of crypto assets, including altcoins like XRP and Litecoin, as well as memecoins and derivative instruments, according to Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas. The news has fueled anticipation of increased institutional participation in the crypto market. 80% of institutional investors plan to increase their allocations to cryptocurrency by 2025, as per a March report by Coinbase and EY-Parthenon. However, analysts caution that simply receiving SEC approval doesn’t guarantee widespread adoption for less familiar alternative cryptocurrencies. Balchunas drew an analogy, suggesting that securing ETF listings is akin to a band getting their music added to various streaming services; it enhances exposure but doesn’t automatically translate to consistent listener engagement.
