Vitalik Buterin Proposes Replacing Ethereum’s EVM with RISC-V

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed a radical solution to Ethereum’s scalability challenges: replacing the network’s core execution engine, the EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine), with the open-source RISC-V processor architecture. In a new post on the Ethereum Magicians forum, Buterin argues that the execution layer — which handles smart contracts — is a key bottleneck hindering Ethereum’s growth. To address this, he proposes a complete overhaul of the system by switching to RISC-V under the hood.
