Cryptographer and Bitcoin pioneer Adam Back has warned that advancements in quantum computing could significantly impact the security of Bitcoin, potentially even forcing Satoshi Nakamoto to move their cryptocurrency. In an interview following a recent Q&A session at the ‘Satoshi Spritz’ event in Turin on April 18th, Back explained that while current quantum computers pose no immediate threat to Bitcoin’s encryption, they could become a major concern within the next two decades. This potential threat, he suggests, will force the Bitcoin community to make a critical decision: either by deprecating older, vulnerable addresses or risk losing their funds due to theft.
