Panama City Embraces Crypto for Taxes: Payments Accepted in Bitcoin and Ethereum

Panama City has taken a bold step toward integrating cryptocurrency into its tax and fee payment system. Residents are now able to settle their taxes and municipal fees using popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, though all transactions are automatically converted to U.S. dollars before processing. While the city officially recognizes these digital currencies as forms of payment, Panama City’s government has not invested in any cryptocurrency assets, relying on a local bank to facilitate conversion for its tax payments and fees. This decision was announced by Mayor Mayer Mizrachi, highlighting the importance of exploring modern financial solutions within the city.
