Manta Network Co-Founder Defeats Phishing Attack, Highlighting Sophisticated Targeting Tactics

Kenny Li, co-founder of the Manta Network, thwarted a sophisticated phishing attack by Lazarus, a North Korean-linked hacking group, while engaging in a Zoom meeting. The attack aimed to install malware on Li’s computer after he was lured into a fake meeting with seemingly legitimate participants. Li recognized suspicious behavior and quickly ended the call, attempting to verify the identity of the attacker through Telegram but finding his messages deleted and account blocked. This incident is not isolated, as other members of the Manta Network have reported similar attacks targeting them as well. The attackers’ use of familiar faces and the pressure tactic to install malware under the guise of a fake Zoom update indicates the evolving sophistication of such cyberattacks. Experts are urging users on platforms like Zoom to be vigilant, especially when encountering unusual behavior during video calls, and verify identities through alternative means.
