Kyrgyzstan Enacts Legal Framework for Digital Currency Implementation

Kyrgyzstan has taken a significant step towards the implementation of its Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), dubbed the ‘digital som’. The country’s legal framework, outlining the future launch of this digital currency, was recently enacted. This crucial step paves the way for President Sadyr Zhaparov to formally proceed with issuance in 2026, following extensive testing planned for this year.
