Justice B. R. Gavai, the judge who presided over the case involving the dismissal of 54 WazirX users’ petition against the exchange’s management and founder, Nischal Shetty, is set to become the next Chief Justice of India (CJI). His recommendation follows Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna’s decision. The case involved a lack of clarity on crypto regulations within India and Gavai was part of the two-member bench that dismissed the petition based on this fact. 54 WazirX users had filed the writ petition seeking intervention in the exchange management, citing their distress over the matter. Notably, Justice Gavai expressed his reluctance to entertain the plea and suggested making representations to relevant authorities for further action.
