Malta’s Financial Authority Issues Warning Against Cryptocurrency Scams Targeting Traders

The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) has issued a public alert regarding fraudulent activity targeting cryptocurrency traders. Scammers are creating fake documents to extort money from individuals by falsely claiming they have been fined for market manipulation and threatening action if payments aren’t received. This scam primarily targets Bitcoin and Ethereum traders. The MFSA revealed that these perpetrators are sending forged documents to those involved in BTC and ETH trading, falsely accusing them of illegal activity and demanding a payment to avoid regulatory penalties. However, the MFSA has confirmed the letters are not genuine, and they have no legal weight. The scammers’ tactics include meticulously replicating the MFSA’s logo on the fake documents in an attempt to deceive recipients into believing the correspondence is legitimate.
