Andreessen Horowitz Invests $55 Million in LayerZero, Doubling Down on Cross-Chain Messaging Protocol

Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has committed an additional $55 million to LayerZero, a Web3 company behind a crosschain messaging protocol that enables seamless communication across different blockchain networks. This investment follows a prior commitment made by a16z in March 2022 and another during LayerZero’s Series B funding round in April 2023. The exact valuation of the latest funding round remains undisclosed, per Ali Yahya, general partner at a16z and source for the announcement via X (formerly Twitter). LayerZero recently reached a settlement with the FTX Estate regarding allegations of exploiting the exchange’s liquidity crisis during their dispute. In June 2024, LayerZero launched its own token, LayerZero (ZRO), marking a significant development in the company’s journey. 2025 saw the release of the ZRO token on LayerZero’s new blockchain based protocol. The protocol is expected to have long-term implications as it continues to gain traction. 16z joins an impressive list of investors including Circle Ventures, OKX Ventures, OpenSea Ventures, Sequoia Capital and more. The success of this investment was reflected in a recent $3 billion valuation for the company during its Series B funding round with participation from over 30 diverse investors.
