Cryptocurrency exchanges Binance and KuCoin experienced service disruptions on Tuesday, citing a network interruption impacting one Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center. Both platforms issued statements indicating the outage was caused by a technical issue with AWS services. Binance confirmed the suspension of withdrawals while they worked with AWS to resolve the problem. KuCoin assured users their assets remain secure and provided updates via official channels. 30 minutes after Binance’s announcement, they reported that all services were back online, albeit with potential delays. Meanwhile, other crypto-affiliated entities like DeFi interface DeBank and multi-chain wallet Rabby also faced disruptions. AWS later issued an update stating the issue was resolved, but acknowledged multiple service interruptions. The outage raises concerns about the dependence on centralized cloud providers for crypto exchange operations, particularly in light of potential single points of failure. Some users expressed their disappointment with the reliance on AWS and advocated for decentralized alternatives.
