U.S. Senate Introduces ‘Clean Cloud Act’ to Curb Cryptocurrency Mining Emissions

The U.S. Senate has introduced a bill aiming to reduce the environmental impact of cryptocurrency mining and AI data centers. Dubbed the ‘Clean Cloud Act of 2025,’ the legislation requires miners to cut emissions by 2035, potentially facing fines for non-compliance. To incentivize renewable energy use, the bill proposes a gradual reduction in emission caps from an initial cap set this year and further reductions every year until reaching zero in 2035.
