Senator Push for Transparency in Cryptocurrency Markets

In response to increasing scrutiny of cryptocurrency practices in the United States, Senators Thom Tillis and John Hickenlooper are reintroducing the PROOF Act. This legislation aims to enhance transparency by requiring companies offering cryptocurrency services to regularly oversee customer assets. The bill proposes monthly audits by independent auditors to confirm that customer funds are securely managed, preventing any commingling of customer and corporate funds. These audits will utilize advanced cryptographic techniques like Merkle trees and zero-knowledge proofs for user privacy while ensuring the accuracy of reported asset amounts. Furthermore, the U.S. Department of the Treasury will publicly release audit results to promote accountability.
